Kangaroo - Daydream Stallion
From Kangaroo’s one and only release from 1968 which features my favorite obscure late 60’s/early 70’s songstresses, Barbara Keith (who I previously posted about here). While this particular release is nothing extraordinarily special, this particular song has an intense and haunting quality which makes it outshine the rest of the record. ”Daydream Stallion” is the only song in which Barabara Keith sings leading vocals and one of two written by her. The record itself is kind of a mish-mash of standard country-rock, Beatle-styled numbers, and poppy-psychedelia, which renders the album extremely inconsistent. While the record is an ambitious effort and is decent in reality, I can’t help but wonder how much better it would have been if Barbara Keith was allowed to have written and sang lead on more of the songs. Worth a check out, but “Daydream Stallion” is a must-listen for fans of the genre.
